If you’re looking for simple Christmas crafts to enjoy with your kids, you’ve come to the right place.

See, I’m not exactly what you’d call the crafty type. I enjoy doing art projects with my daughter, but I’m hopelessly bad at it. I can cook all day long and enjoy trying elaborate recipes, but put me in front of paper and scissors and I break out in a cold sweat.

I’ve come to accept that my strengths lie elsewhere, but I don’t want to deprive Nina of the chance to do some mother-daughter crafts. So I’ve scoured the internet for some simple Christmas crafts that you can pull off with just a few basic supplies and an appalling lack of art skills.

1. Paper Roll Snowflake Craft

You’ll need: empty toilet paper or paper towel rolls, scissors, a glue gun, glitter glue or glue and glitter, sequins or paint.

These pretty snowflakes are as easy as cutting up a paper roll and gluing stuff to it, so it’s right up my alley, but they turn out looking surprisingly nice.

2. Tissue Paper Wreath

You’ll need: a thin piece of cardboard (an empty cereal box works), green tissue paper, glue, a paint brush, a pencil with an eraser, and optional embellishments

If you can draw a circle and cut tissue paper (or better yet, buy pre-cut squares), you can make this cute wreath to hang on your child’s bedroom door.

3. Cork Reindeer Ornaments

You’ll need: corks, mini red pom poms, craft eyes, glue, pipe cleaners, ribbon and straight pins

These cute reindeer ornaments are almost too simple, so they’re great when you don’t want to devote a whole afternoon to a craft project. There are a few steps you’ll have to do, but your little ones will have fun placing the eyes and twisting the antlers together.

4. Toilet Paper Roll Gingerbread Man Craft

You’ll need: empty toilet paper roll, craft eyes, markers, buttons, white ric-rac trim, brown construction paper, tape and glue

Another great idea using recycled toilet paper rolls, these adorable gingerbread men come together quickly and painlessly and are highly customisable.

5. Accordion Christmas Tree Craft

You’ll need: green card stock, a stapler, coloured paper, star and circle punches (or you could cut these shapes by hand), a glue gun

If you can fold a piece of paper in an accordion and operate a glue gun and hole punch, you have the perfect skill set to make these cute trees that can be glued onto Christmas cards or hung on the tree.

6. Santa Handprint Craft

You’ll need: white card stock, paint, craft eyes, small red pom poms, cotton balls, glue, and some red and white felt

This is the type of craft that will be fun to pull out years from now because your child’s handprint is used to make Santa’s face and the base of his beard. It’s easy and turns out looking adorable, and who doesn’t love crafts that involve cotton balls?

7. String of Lights Picture Frame

You’ll need: a cheap frame with a white mat border, coloured ink pads, a fine-tip black marker

If your kids like getting messy, this one’s for you, but rest assured it’s a very controlled mess.

They’ll be putting their little fingers in the ink pads and making fingerprints around the frame. Then, you’ll draw on some bulb stems and string with a black marker. You’ll end up with a great keepsake, or you can give it as a gift with a photo of your kids inside.

These simple Christmas crafts will make you feel like a rock star! If I can do these, anyone can!
