5 ways to help your child have a great day at school
A little thought goes a long way! A few simple steps in the right direction can make your child’s day at school more enjoyable.
Here are 5 ways to help your child have a great day at school:
- Bedtime at a decent hour
Tired, yawning kids are no fun at all. Not to the teacher having to shout out their name another time to get their attention. Definitely not to themselves when they start dragging their feet during sports. Well rested kids are able to concentrate better and are more likely to grasp new concepts. - Wake him or her up properly
Kids are no different to adults when it comes to how we all prefer to wake differently. Some of us prefer to have one alarm and get straight out of bed, others ‘snooze’ once, whilst others set a number of alarms at different times to gradually wake themselves up. Get to terms with your child’s preferences and be understanding and patient about it. Whilst all it takes for Nina is a cheery good morning or two, and a few smiles and jokes to get her morning routine started; with Yanik it is the exact opposite. His alarm is set for 30 minutes before he is due to wake up. After that I consistently nudge him gently every ten minutes or so until he (very!) groggily gets up when his 30 minutes are up. - A nutritious breakfast to start the day
We all know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Focus on giving your kids foods high in wholegrain, protein and fibre. Wholegrain bread with eggs, avocado on wholegrain toast and wholegrain cereal topped with Greek joghurt and fruit are all great options. - Show them you care
A little thought goes a long way! Hide a little note in your child’s lunchbox, diary, pencil case or schoolbag to tell them how special they are, to have a great day, or that you love them. If they are too little to understand, ask their teacher to read them their note. You can download a set of free lunchbox notes here. - Pack a great lunch
When I asked my eldest, Yanik, the best way to help him have a great day at school he said ‘pack me a good lunch’ without hesitation. Yanik is not much of an eater, but still, who wouldn’t enjoy opening their lunchbox to find their favourite snacks prepared?
Do you have any tricks up your sleeve which you use for your kids?
Have a lovely day mamas!
